HEEL and TOE POLKA
The Polka is a lively, energetic Bohemian dance which spread throughout Europe and America in the early 1800's. The dance was first introduced into Prague ballrooms in 1835.
The name of the dance (Pulka) is Czech for "half-step", referring to the rapid shift from one foot to the other. In Polish the word "Polka" means a "Polish woman".
The Heel and Toe Polka is performed in a circle with a frequent change of partners.
